Dr Andrew Clarke – Anaesthetist

Dr Andrew Clarke is a specialist anaesthetist working with the Gold Coast Tweed Anaesthetic Group.

Dr Andrew Clarke grew up in Perth, Western Australia and completed a science degree at the University of Western Australia. It was here that he developed an interest in Physiology, the study of the physical and biochemical processes that underlie the functioning of the human body. In 1998 Dr Clarke moved to Brisbane to study Medicine at the University of Queensland Medical School. After graduating in 2001 he moved to the Gold Coast Hospital where he completed his first years as a junior doctor and discovered his interest in anaesthetics.

Over the next seven years, Dr Clarke trained in anaesthetics at a variety of hospitals in South East Queensland including QE2 in Mt Gravatt, Princess Alexandra and Mater mothers/Kids in Brisbane, Gold Coast Public Hospital and Toowoomba Base Hospital. A year of this time was spent travelling, incorporating three months working at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England.

Dr Clarke finished his training in anaesthetics in early 2011 after spending seven months with Careflight and the Royal Flying Doctor Service in retrieval medicine. Dr Clarke started working with the Gold Coast Tweed Anaesthetic Group at John Flynn Hospital shortly after and has been there ever since.

Dr Clarke employs a patient-centred approach to anaesthetics and use a variety of techniques including both General and Regional techniques (such as spinal anaesthesia and nerve blocks), with the aim of making your experience of surgery and anaesthesia as stress-free and pain-free as possible.
